Do It Like A Delevingne

‘Reggae,’ says Poppy Delevingne, ‘has a good weekend feel – relaxed and easy.’ Sensible then that Poppy has chosen the chilled out beats of Gregory Isaacs as the background music for her Sunday brunch. Her vivacious guests – fashion influencer Alice Naylor-Leyland, stylist Olivia Buckingham and designer Emilia Wickstead – can easily be heard above the tunes.

And quite right, because how else would Poppy hear the girls say ‘when’ as she pours them their tea and they discuss one another’s caffeine habits? Discussing tea is, of course, typically British, but it’s just a conversation starter and the girls are soon jumping from topic to topic: Emilia’s latest collection, caesareans vs natural birth, Poppy’s recent travels to LA and New York, and Alice’s eating habits, which they mock, with affection.

Alice, you see, isn’t a huge fan of fruit or veg; so the trusty avocado on toast that Poppy has put together isn’t going to do the trick for her dearest pal. Not that Poppy minds – she’s whipped up some pancakes for her instead. ‘I always think it’s nice to try and cater for what people really feel like. And at brunch you’ve got far more options. Eggs and soldiers, for instance, or crumpets. You can’t really do that at lunch.’

But that doesn’t mean her table isn’t as well thought out as it would be for lunch proper: beautiful flowers, English Pear & Freesia Candles which are ‘not too overwhelming for the morning or Orange Blossom Candles because ‘I wore the cologne version on my wedding day, so it always makes me feel joyous.’ And let’s not forget the perfectly enviable china teacups and saucers. That’s all you need, right? Wrong. You also need a pair of flamingo shaped salt and pepper shakers. Why? Because they’re fun.

Poppy has the same anything-goes attitude when it comes to choosing what to wear for brunch:  ‘Pyjamas. Or a tiara and ballgown. Whatever.’ And, guess what? She is equally chilled out when it comes to what bottoms she puts on seats around the table. ‘Brunch is for anyone you can think of. Babies, dogs, parrots… just don’t think too hard about it.’
